qedis has turned the consulting market on its head by smashing targets and achieving a record 40% growth in revenues. Thirty seven new clients have been added to its portfolio in past 12 months. This alongside achieving 7th place in the Sunday Times “Best Small Company to work for” makes it hard to deny a tremendous success story.
So how does this management consultancy continue to defy the odds in such a way?
In 2003, qedis was established to change the way the world thinks about consulting. The firm has adopted a unique values based approach to how it works with its clients and the way it treats its own people, something that it refers to as nextgen.
qedis CEO Paramjit Uppal emphasises this need for a people-orientated approach to ensure long-term growth and success – “qedis believes in treating its people and its clients in the right way. At the end of the day, people matter and people buy people. We have very capable and driven team, we are committed to helping our clients help themselves and we guarantee our work – it’s what we call nextgen consulting. Combine this with our global capability from 2,500 consultants worldwide and we seem to have hit on a recipe for success for both our people and our clients.”
In a year where the consulting market has remained very weak, and rates have been squeezed (Source Buying Trends Survey 2011), qedis has managed to grow revenue by 40% to £18million in the UK. But if all that isn’t enough, qedis is confident of achieving its ambitious plan to become a £50million business in the UK, within a $1B consultancy network across USA and China (Qedis is part of Highland Worldwide, an international network of consulting businesses with 2,500 consultants operating from 47 offices across the world).
As qedis goes from strength to strength, the story provides a lesson for the other management consultancies out there; be the type of consultancy that you would want to buy from!

Qedis has achieved a top 10 ranking in the Sunday Times Best Companies To Work For list. Qedis is placed at number 7, ahead of any other management consultancies. This is an incredible achievement given the backdrop of challenging market conditions for consulting as well as continued business growth of 30% from last year.
Paramjit Uppal, CEO of Qedis, said, “We are all very proud to receive this external recognition for a great business with great people. Even during a very testing year for consulting, we have continued to do the right thing across all aspects our business. I’m privileged to be leading one of only three companies that managed to hold onto their top 10 ranking from last year!”
Over 567 companies were surveyed for this year’s best company awards and the ‘Best Companies Star Accreditation’. Only 30 achieved the highest award of 3-stars, with just 16 companies retaining their 3 stars from the previous year; Qedis being one of these. Qedis were also finalists for two special honours – ‘Giving Back’ and ‘Training and Development’. These awards recognised some of the great work the company has done over the year to support charities and people in need, the local community and our own people with their professional and career development.
Qedis has always set itself apart by treating its people with trust, integrity and honesty; an ethos we extend to our clients through our nextgen approach to consulting. At the celebration event last night in Battersea Park Evolution, Qedis was represented by 20 people across all parts of the business and grades, sharing the recognition on behalf of everyone who works at Qedis.
These awards provide a clear differentiator: Qedis is the highest-ranked management consulting firm in the list, has achieved 3-star accreditation and is proud that our nextgen approach has helped place us in the top 10 “best small companies to work for” for another year running.

Also during the year, Qedis added 221 new projects to its portfolio and was awarded 4th Best Small Company to Work For by the Sunday Times.
Qedis CEO Paramjit Uppal puts much of the company’s ongoing achievement down to this unique people approach: “Qedis believes in treating its people and its clients in the right way. This is what we’re all about. We employ excellent people, we are committed to helping our clients help themselves and we guarantee our work – it’s what we like to call Next Generation Consulting.”
In a year when consulting industry fees have actually fallen and with the total industry worth dropping from GBP8.5billion to GBP7.96billion, according to the Management Consultancies Association (MCA), Qedis has still managed to boost sales by 30% to GBP13million. Nearly 60% of its clients from FY09 re-hired the consultancy in FY10 and 25 new clients invited Qedis back to help with other areas of their business.
Growth is also predicted for the year ahead, with plans to increase from 100 to 135 consultants and a sales forecast of GBP18million.
