Transformation specialists Moorhouse have appointed Nick Woodward as sector lead for energy and utilities. Nick comes with over 20 years experience of leading and growing transformation consultancy businesses and delivering out of the ordinary transformations for clients across sectors and at national, regional and international scale – having worked for Fujitsu, PA Consulting and Logica. His role will involve engaging with and delivering business critical change projects for clients in the energy and utilities sectors.
Nick comments: “It is a pleasure to be joining a company with Moorhouse’s track record and ambitions and very exciting to be leading the energy and utilities work. Creating a low carbon future against a back drop of regulatory reforms, price reviews, massive deployments of new technology and global competition for both natural resources and capital make these very interesting times indeed. Times when it is essential for businesses to remain agile and responsive to change.”
Stephen Vinall, Moorhouse Managing Director, adds: “I am delighted to be able to bring someone into the team with such a wealth of experience and knowledge and track record of outstanding delivery for clients. Nick is already driving things forward within our team and with clients.”
Nick formally joined Moorhouse in February 2012. He is a chartered engineer with a BSc in applied physics, an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and an MBA from the University of Western Australia.

The programme advisory specialists won the International category for their work on BT’s Billing+ programme, which saw the joint team overcome significant cultural and geographical challenges to help the client simplify and standardise its complex global billing operations. The project has saved BT £35m to date (with more to follow) via outsourcing to India.
BT’s Commercial Director for Billing+ Martin Gaunt spoke proudly of the programme’s success. “Billing+ has been acknowledged as one of the most successful of a wide range of change initiatives in BT Global Services during 2009–2010,” said Martin. “The programme embedded process improvement that delivered key cash flow and working capital improvements, vital to the future of BT GS. In every region, billing performance has been improved. Moreover, over £100M of associated benefits have been identified, on top of the £35m+ already banked.”
The director leading Moorhouse work in BT, Bob Hendicott, said his team’s leadership and programme execution skills were really tested by the demands of the programme, which required them to deal with a large number of BT regions on sensitive issues.
Bob said: “This project team had to build relationships carefully with groups across the globe, get to know them and their particular issues, and find a way to drive a new billing operation forward whilst staying sensitive to local needs.
“The team’s relationship-building and delivery skills blended well with BT’s technical expertise and in-house knowledge – and the hard work paid off.”
Bob concluded: “We are delighted to be recognised by the industry’s leading body, and to win such a coveted award for our work.”

It is certainly proving a happy new year for the Moorhouse team so far. The programme and project management advisory specialists received top honours at the Institute of Consulting (IC) Annual Awards last week, when consultant Tom Elvidge was crowned ‘IC Consultant of the Year’ and colleague Simon Dennis picked up the award for ‘Customer Delight’.
Elvidge was commended for his support to client Department for Transport (DfT) International Networks Division, with whom he created a strong partnership whilst working on a programme to identify and propose improvements to passenger and freight journeys through airports and ports.
Dennis won the award for customer delight based on his work on the clinical delivery of a key patient administration system for NHS Connecting for Health. Client Joe McDonald said Simon had helped “the programme progress further in five months that it had done in the previous five years” with his “structure, analysis and high quality deliverables”.
Managing director Dom Moorhouse said he was delighted to begin 2011 in such a positive manner: “To start the year with that kind of feedback from a client is pretty special; winning two important industry awards is in recognition of our impact is doubly satisfying. I’m especially pleased for my colleagues who worked so hard to delight their respective clients. 2010 was a breakthrough year for us as we successfully entered new markets, however, I’m heartened that one thing remains consistent – our ability to help clients deliver their complex transformation programmes and our dedication to achieving their desired outcomes.”

The partnership offers a unique combination of top-level talent, leadership advisory services, and development skills, with many years of experience of working at Board and Executive level in the public sector.
These combined skills have already won the Partnership a coveted place on the Buying Solutions framework agreement for ‘Non-Permanent Staff Services’.
Moorhouse’s managing director, Dom Moorhouse, said he was delighted with the framework win, and that the new solutions couldn’t come at a better time for clients.
“We’re about to see the biggest shake up of our public services since the Second World War, and many departments will need a fresh injection of talent to help them deliver and cope with the change,” said Dom. “The right interim managers can be the force needed to manage this type of transformation. Put these people in the right roles, doing the right things, and they will help the Government come out of the other side of the crisis.”
The business model for the Moorhouse Penna Partnership has been created with Government’s needs specifically in mind. Dom continued: “Public sector doesn’t want to spend scarce cash on vast groups of advisors or consultants anymore. They need specialist people or teams of no more than two or three, delivering very specific goals. They also need a ‘low risk’ purchase – and this is where our experience as a niche firm used to these types of close engagements comes into its own. Combine that with Penna’s excellent pool of talent, Hay Group’s HR and change expertise and BiP Solution’s commissioning, training and development skills – and we truly believe we have a value for money solution to our clients’ interim management headaches.”
James Hunt, managing director of Penna, concludes: “We are delighted to be in partnership with Moorhouse, offering something so critical to the public sector with a company that shares our values of integrity and quality. Our new staffing solutions will enable faster, better, and cheaper delivery of the Government’s efficiency and reform programme.”
